  • Steph swam from an early age, and competed for the Warriors of Warrington SC at County level. After a 17 year break, she came back to swimming barely 6 months before the COVID 19 lockdown shut everything down!

Joining Trojans in mid 2020, she fell back in love with swimming and has since surpassed all times and levels she set as a junior. Highlights of Masters Swimming with Trojans include achieving top ten finishes at the World Masters Championships in Singapore 2025 and competing with as many of the team as possible at meets all over the UK.

  • Sorrell swam competitively until the age of 16, representing Killerwhales and Romford Town. As a teenager she was an age-group National medalist, before taking a 27-year break from the sport. What began as a simple return to the pool to ‘keep fit’ quickly reminded her just how much she had missed competitive swimming.

Today, masters swimming is a major part of Sorrell’s life. She competes regularly at National and International level, combining her love of swimming with her passion for travel.

As Club Welfare Officer, Sorrell is dedicated to ensuring South Downs Trojans remains a friendly, inclusive and supportive club environment, where Masters swimmers of all ages and abilities can feel safe, welcome, and able to share her enthusiasm for the sport.

  • Mitch has a varied background in competitive swimming, including competing, coaching and providing scientific support to swimmers. Her day job has allowed her to work with grass routes through to elite level swimmers providing scientific support to Swim England, the International Olympic Committee and FINA (World Aquatics). Mitch returned to competitive swimming a couple of years ago and is thrilled to have made National Championships the past two years thanks to the training and camaraderie of SD Trojans. She’s equally happy to be pounding up and down a pool as she is analysing swimming data.

Meet the Coaches

  • Tony has been a masters swimmer since 1992 and has competed at National and International level during this time. He is an accomplished butterfly swimmer, winning the 200m butterfly at the World Masters Games in 2005, had many World and European Championship top 10 places and won multiple butterfly events at the British Long Course and short course National Championships.

Tony started his coaching journey in 2019 and is a qualified Swim England level 2 coach. After the demise of many masters squads due to COVID-19, Tony and 5 other friends started South Down Trojans swimming club with the hope of providing a dedicated club for masters without the many issues of being involved with mainstream clubs.

After many years in swimming, not only as a swimmer but as the Hampshire County Masters team manager and secretary, Tony wanted to give back to the sport through his coaching. His goal has always been to help improve all swimmers who join the club, not only in their fitness, but also in perfect technique and instilling a winning mindset in those who want to compete.

His previous work with Hampshire, his many years in masters swimming and his help to build up SD Trojans to the club it is today helped towards him being the recipient of the 2022 Masters Cherriman trophy, awarded by British Swimming each year to an individual who has helped promote and foster the cause of Masters swimming in Great Britain.

Ems now loves racing as a Masters swimmer and is excited to help every Trojan become the swimmer they want to be.
